If you want to know whether a study method works, the obvious move is to ask how well you feel you learned. The research is clear that this answer is often wrong, and wrong in a consistent direction.
Active classes, lower confidence
Deslauriers and colleagues (2019) taught introductory physics students in two ways: polished lectures by highly rated instructors, and active sessions where students worked through problems with guidance. Students then took the same test and reported how much they felt they had learned.
